Gap
Allowance
by Vegaskid
"Any system will
fail as long as it doesn't receive the necessary hits to achieve a win. You
can take the Martingale for example. If you can't get a hit within your
sequence of bets, you lose your bankroll. Looking at it from the other end
though, if you are able to maintain a hit within the sequence of bets, you
will never lose!"
Below is the bet base...
To put it simply, I am never concerned with the patterns that are coming up
at the tables. What I am concerned with though is the performance of the
bets I am tracking. A question might have just popped up and you are asking
your self, performance of bets he is tracking? Let me explain...
When I track a particular bet, what I am looking for is the hit rate that it
is achieving. Very rarely will I ever go ahead and try to flat bet because
I've found that it simply is just not very practical. But when you play a
negative progression, you can make a negative situation profitable.
To sum of what I've said in terms of bet selection, below are a few examples
of what I am trying to get at:
Even Money Bets [Pay 1:1]
RR BBB RR BB R B R B R B R BBBBB R B
If we played the above sequence flat betting, we would have the following
results:
R-1 [1 hit on red]
R-1 [1 hit on red]
R-0 [0 hit on red]
R-0 ...
R-0
R-0
R-0
How did I get those results? Well a signal to start playing would be when I
see a R show up. So obviously I miss out on the first R but get a hit on any
consecutive R that may show up. This also allows me to miss out on the B's.
But this is no fun because it isn't very profitable!
Now, let me show you the same line again but show you what happens with a
gap allowance of 1:
RR BBB RR BB R B R B R B R BBBBB R B
R-1
R-1
R-3
R-0
Notice, the results of the runs were slightly increased. Now below is a
sample of the same run with a gap allowance of 2:
RR BBB RR BB R B R B R B R BBBBB R B
R-1
R-5
R-0
The runs are again, slightly bigger. Now I know that there are misses in the
middle, but what we are trying to achieve are hits. Why hits? Well, to make
it short, no matter what system you play, if you can't achieve the hits then
you might as well not play.
Let me take you through the example with dozens [the other favorite type of
bet I play].
Dozens [Pay 2:1]
3-2-2-3-2-1-3-1-1-3-1-1-2-3-2-3-3-2-3-1-3-2-1
I am going to apply gaps allowances of 2 right away since it pays 2:1
Dozen 1:
D1-4
D1-0
D1-inconclusive
Dozen 2:
D2-2
D2-1
D2-0
D2-inconclusive
Dozen 3:
D3-0
D3-0
D3-0
D3-4
D3-0
As you can see, the runs are relatively short. Now lets set the allowance
for gaps of 4 and see what happens:
3-2-2-3-2-1-3-1-1-3-1-1-2-3-2-3-3-2-3-1-3-2-1
Dozen 1:
D1-4
D1-1+inconclusive
Dozen 2:
D2-1
D2-3+inconclusive
Dozen 3:
D3-8+inconclusive
After giving the two examples above, I hope that you understand what I'm
trying to get at. The length of the wins are longer if you give gap
allowance to be implemented. Don't think I just gave you a bet selection
because I didn't. What I did give you though is a base or foundation that
can be used along side with a bet selection of your choice.
Also keep in mind if there are a lot of 0 runs because you could use them
potentially as reverse plays *wink wink*
Here is my actual bet selection that I use, and from this, I implement what
I just told you about, the bet foundation.
I keep things very simple and while at the table, I keep the thought of chop
or streak in mind. A good reason I play roulette is because there is almost
always 1 even money bet either chopping or streaking. Rarely, if ever will
all three even money bets be doing a combination of both.
What is a choppy trend? I consider an even money bet is in a choppy trend
when it tends to not go past a streak of 3 [From my playing experience, it
is usually a choppy trend that is occuring at a table]
What is a streaky trend? I consider an even money bet a streaky trend when
there are either none or very very few single series in between streaks of 2
or more.
Don't be limited to just my way of bet selection. Anyone could play the bet
before last, the opposite of the last or even follow the last as well as any
other bet selection that is out there.
Also, in the example I gave with the dozens, you do not have to play just
one dozen. You can play 2 of them at once [I personally prefer playing just
1 though since the payoff is better].
Now, moving forward I am going to tell you about the money management which
is probably the easiest thing of all. The original method came with a parlay
martingale which seemed pretty good. I personally didn't like it and play a
more conservative progression.
What is a conservative progression? I am sure it changes from player to
player in definition, but for me it means that 1 win won't recoup all the
losses but a portion of them. Why would I go for only a portion? Well it is
because I am using the bet foundation to try and probe for the optimal
winning run and when it comes, I get my hits and I get paid. It is really
simple as that.
There is no one set money management. Depending on what you are trying to
play and what your gap allowance is, you vary your money management.
Originally I started off using the parlay martingale as the creator
suggested but moved on to a cancellation which brought great results. The
only reason I switched down to a conservative progression was because it
reduced the bankroll requirement even further.
All I can suggest to you is to get familiar with as many possible money
management ideas as you possible can because eventually you might find one
that you like over the others while playing this method. Also, any money
management scheme could possibly work in any given situation.
Before I go I would like to mention that the base foundation for betting can
be applied any gambling systems that are already out there.
I've seen a lot of bashing lately and wouldn't be surprised if people tried
to put me down or say what I've just posted doesn't work. But as I said
above, this is my only post.
Good Luck to everyone and I hope I've helped you. I send a big THANKS out to
the original creator of the system, whoever he is.
If you wonder about me gambling professionally, the answer is no. I only
gamble on vacations because I've found gambling has a long record of
bringing negtive life qualities as compared to the positive ones.

Further explanation
I feel bad leaving everybody in the dark so I will tag around for the next
few days and check periodically while answering any questions. The last
thing I want to do is get caught up in gambling.

At this point I entered the game playing DS1 because it was on a streak.
Notice though that if you play DZ1 and DZ3 that you would have 6 hits and

2 unit on B-->18 +6 units
6 unit on B-->30 +0 units
Walk away from the session +13 units
I was as high as +21 units during the session but I reached my goal and
wanted to continue playing the current streak I was on because sometimes
when you pass it up, it may be something you regret. Other times you lose
the next bets right away. You win some you lose some.
This happened to be an exceptional session where the streaks I did spot and
play managed to last for a fair amount of hits. A bit of luck was on my side
that night. While I play one type of bet, usually there are opportunities
that present themselves and if you look above, the H/L bets started off
choppy, then they went streaky for a quick few hits, then they went back to
choppy... did you spot that? Prime candidates to play a limited
cancellation.
As seen above, there is no one single bet selection nor is there one single
MM. It depends on the situations that I am able to spot and play. When I
profit lock, I tend to use the parlay martingale because it slowly adds up
if you do encounter a good run. If you are willing to take a few hits before
profit locking again, it brings forth even more rewards, but then again, you
can lose it if your luck for that particular run runs out.
Total Bankroll Brought = 100 units
Session Bankroll = 20 units
What exactly is gap allowance?
A Gap is an allowance for a miss bet opportunity. So if I say the gap
allowance = 1 that means if I play black and it goes B R B, then I am still
in the game because I have adapted a progression of some sort to play with
it. I may just bet the same amount 2 times. But if it goes B RR B, then I
missed my 2nd bet which causes me to lose. Now if my gap allowance = 2, then
B RR B would be a hit still and I would continue to play and 3 misses would
require me to lose making it B RRR B. A gap allowance = 3 would be able to
cover this though.
You may be thinking... why not just increase your bet allowance to a high
number. The answer to this is you could, but when you do, you then start to
risk a lot of capital even though your risk is very minimal on losing due to
a high gap allowance. By staying at a lower gap allowance, i.e. 1,2 max 3,
then you are able to be more conservative with your bankroll. You will find
that with a good streak and a gap allowance of 1 or 2, you will still get
runs where you can win up to 30 or 40 times before you lose. These are quite
rare, but streaks of wins lasting of up to 5 or 6 are very common as well.
Let me take you through one more situation:
If the gap allowance = 1 and you have a history of the table for example B/R
and it looks like the following:
B-2
B-1
B-3
B-2
B-5
B-1
B-1
An idea is you might want to go for the 1 hit and then stop, wait for the
run to bust, then start for 1 hit again when it comes back around. There is
nothing saying that you need to play a streak out all the way. I tend to
play a streak out for all it is worth because, as I said above, I get my
hits and I get paid off. Which basically means when I hit that nice little
streak, it pulls me into the green and by going for such low gap allowances.
The bigger the gap allowance, the longer your runs will be. But when it
busts, you will need a lot of capital to bring you back.
As I explained above, a gap allowance is an allowance for a miss. If you
stop after you lose 1 bet, notice your streaks are very short. When you
start to allow for a miss here and there, the streaks you are on become
longer and greater in number. Notice, for example, a martingale with gap
allowance = 8 can go on for 200-300 wins sometimes before it goes bust. The
only problem is if it busts early, you need to risk a lot more capital to
get it all back whereas if you keep your allowances short [1-3] then you can
wait for that run of 5-6 hits and then bring it all back plus some. Make
sense?
The gap allowance is based on what you are observing at the table or
according to what you are playing. It changes all the time but when I start
playing, I keep my play at the current gap allowance and when it busts and I
change betting styles, then I more than likely will change my gap allowance
based on what I observe at the table.
To clarify the following:
B-2 [black hit and continued to hit 2 more times with 0 to 1 gaps in between
each subsequent black hit]
B-1[black hit and continued to hit 1 more time with 0 to 1 gaps in between
each subsequent black hit]
B-3[black hit and continued to hit 3 more times with 0 to 1 gaps in between
each subsequent black hit]
B-2[black hit and continued to hit 2 more times with 0 to 1 gaps in between
each subsequent black hit]
B-5[black hit and continued to hit 5 more times with 0 to 1 gaps in between
each subsequent black hit]
B-1[black hit and continued to hit 1 more times with 0 to 1 gaps in between
each subsequent black hit]
B-1[black hit and continued to hit 1 more times with 0 to 1 gaps in between
each subsequent black hit]
Explanation is written to the side of it. I hope it helps.
As I mentioned though, don't close yourself to just performance of the
table. You can apply this to system performance. I highly recommend you use
low bankroll systems BTW.
Here is one example of what I mean about using the base foundation towards
systems out on the market:
I got this system from another gambler a while back and it is nothing
special at all, but gets the point across of how you can adapt the base
foundation to systems out on the market.
The system played double streets [DS] and would put 1 unit down on the DS
that just hit. IF he lost this bet, he would place 1 unit down on the last 2
DS to hit and IF he lost this bet, he would place 1 more bet down of 1 units
on the last 3 DS to hit. I will label this system as X and then show you how
the streaks occurred using this system X.
X-4 Got 4 hits before the bust.
X-4 Got 4 hits before the bust.
X-6 Got 6 hits before the bust.
At this point, I am noticing that the system is busting after a few wins.
One idea I have is to go in and play it for a hit or two then go out.
Nothing says that it won't bust on me right away though and because it only
requires a 6 unit bankroll, it isn't too bad. Below are the following
results after the above results:
X-5 Got 5 hits before the bust.
X-0 Busted right away.
X-2 Got 2 hits before the bust.
X-11 Got 11 hits before the bust.
You can then see the performance and see if you would like to hop in for a
few or perhaps more than a few hits, then hop out. What I try to look for
are the bigger numbers and hop in while they are hopefully still around.
When they are small, you might want to think about playing the reverse for
just 1-2 hits.
More explanations regarding examples...
Let me try to explain the concept in a different way:
As you most likely know, all systems fail at one point or another. Now, the
point of failure [this is when the number of losses exceeds the gap
allowance] occurs, there will be a certain amount of hits that you will have
succeeded in getting.
Lets take just in general the martingale. If you play a 5 step martingale,
1-2-4-8-16, you can expect to win an average of 31 times for every failure
point that occurs [in the long run] considering the game is a true 50/50
game. Now, while you play this "long run", you will encounter times you will
only make 5, 17, 20, 40, 60... hits before it fails.
What the base foundation does is track the hits that are achieved before a
failure point occurs in hopes to be able to identify how a particular bet or
system is doing at that point in time. We can then tie this into clumps.
When a system fails right away, achieving 0 hits, that means that you will
either encounter longer runs in your favor down the road or it means that
you will encounter a string of hits all at once.
I am hoping that clarifies it up overall on what I'm trying to get at and
what the foundation is suppose to represent.
The other use of the foundation is to be able to give you opportunity plays
through knowledge of the gap allowances that are occurring and the amount if
hits that one is achieving.
Below will be a session that will try to explain to you what I am doing. The
spins are taken from today's Hamburg file.
Gap allowance = 1
30
19
4
4
33
5
34
1
8
33
H=1,1,0+inconclusive [inconclusive means it is still in action at the
moment. 1 means that a hit occurred w/o a gap greater than 1 in between each
win]
L=4+inconclusive [4 means that 4 hits occurred w/o a gap greater than 1 in
between each win]
At this point, we will play L because it is the heavy favorite at the
moment. The line I start with is 1 with a goal of 15 units.
19 [bet 1 unit]...lose line is now 1,1
15 [bet 2 units]...win, line is now cancelled +1
3 [bet 1 unit]...win, +2
7 [bet 1 unit]...win, +3
4 [bet 1 unit]...win, +4
17 [bet 1 unit]...win, +5
11 [bet 1 unit]...win, +6
11 [bet 1 unit]...win, +7
15 [bet 1 unit]...win, +8
6 [bet 1 unit]...win, +9
1 [bet 1 unit]...win, +10
24 [bet 1 unit]...lose, line is now 1,1
19 [bet 2 units]...lose, line is now 1,1,2
We now have had the following:
L=14
H=1,1,1,1+inconclusive
From experience, I would say we should continue to play L because H is not
getting any runs on its side but what we will do is wait for L to hit
because it has been a good performer at this point. Once it hits, we will
play it.
5...no bet
27 [bet 2 units]...lose 1,1,2,2
9 [bet 2 units]...win, line is now 2,2
31 [bet 4 units]...lose, line is now 2,2,4
0 [bet 4 units]...lose, line is now 2,2,4,4
H=1,1,1,3+inconclusive
L=14,1
If H gets to 4, then we will start playing H because it will be showing a
good run perhaps to make up for it's bad runs before [i.e. 1,1,1]. If L
shows up, we will play it for only 1 hit because that is the minimum times
it has shown so far. After the 1 hit, if we achieve it, we will let it play
out to see what it is up to.
34...no bet, H=4+inconclusive, start playing H.
23 [4 unit bet]...win, line is now 4,4
33 [8 unit bet]...win, line is now cancelled +11
28 [1 unit bet]...win, +12
32 [1 unit bet]...win, +13
25 [1 unit bet]...win, +14
1 [1 unit bet]...lose, line is now 1,1
At this point it is a hard decision to make. H is going strong but we expect
L to hit at least once. I will stick with H because it is paying off right
now.
12 [2 unit bet]...lose, line is now 1,1,2
L=14,1,1+inconclusive
H=1,1,1,9 <-a high amount of hits which may mean H is going to have strong
streaks. If H shows, we will play it.
2...no bet L=2
34...no bet L=2+inconclusive, H hit, play H in hopes for a long streak.
29 [2 unit bet]...win, line is now 2
23 [2 unit bet]...win, line is cancelled +15.
I've reached +15 units and would normally stop the session or gamble with
just the 5 units I have. We will continue to play the cancellation with just
the 5 units to see what ends up happening. If it reaches 10, we will stop
play all together, if I lose it, I lose it.
Profit lock +10 units. 5 units to bet with.
22 [1 unit bet]...win, +1
28 [1 unit bet]...win, +2
2 [1 unit bet]...lose, line is now 1,1
11 [2 unit bet]...lose, line is now 1,1,2
H=6 <-on the last run
L=14,1,2,1+inconclusive.
What we can determine is low is getting a few hits after it shows, so we
will wait for a bust then play it for 1 hit if it shows. If H hits we will
play it right away but only for 2-3 hits because it is decreasing in
strength.
17...no bet L=2
36...no bet L=2+inconclusive, H hit, play H
0 [2 unit bet]...lose, 1,1,2,2
22 [1 unit bet]...win, 1,2,2
17 [2 unit bet]...lose, 1,2,2,2 = 7 units that we had... END SESSION
It is a very hard strategy to implement and to try and make it easier to
understand, I only played the H/L bets. Usually I will track the dozens,
columns, and other even money bets as well.
Remember this though, if L=x,y,z where x,y,z are numbers greater than 1,
then when L hits, play it for a hit or two. If x,y,z are large numbers, play
it until it loses. If x,y,z are very low numbers or even 0's, you may want
to consider playing the opposite of L or H.
The idea is to be able to spot the performance and hop in at the best
possible moments. Sometimes you play for 1 hit and other times you play
until the streak runs out.
After typing this up, I can see how it is quite confusing and especially
when you have the choices of playing L for 1 hit but you are currently on H
because it is having a good run...etc. Just use the performance as
indicators.

What you see above is very simply a layout of what my card looks like while
I'm playing. In this particular case it is baccarat. At the bottom of the
chart lies the bet selections [which can be changed accordingly - up to the
player].
To explain briefly what you see above are three ways a player can track a
table [three of perhaps hundreds]. Now what we notice is that instead of an
X, I put a W and if it didn't win there is an L. To keep it simple, from
last time I explained my theory of gap allowance and how it can enable a
player to make appropriate plays giving that they know how the performance
of an event is doing.
Pending on the gap allowance you set for the method you play or chose to
play, you are able to track the method and may stay on the same bet
selection for however long your gap allowance doesn't bust. Meanwhile, you
can notice other bet selections and see if their gap allowance is smaller
than yours [thus achieving a higher hit rate than you are currently
getting].
What about money management?
From what I've learned, a gambler needs to have a foundation in money
management schemes and be able to take any pattern and play against it the
best they can. I recommend that you press on a good streak and lay low on a
losing one - the way I play if I can't achieve more wins than losses through
flat betting. I've taken a liking to three up as you win strategies in
particular, the parlay, reverse cancellation, and conservative/mild
progression.
What have I learned?
While studying gambling and gambling itself is that it is NOT a way to live
and shouldn't be something that is to be taken lightly if you do chose to
take the risk. This weekend, for example, I saw a player lose over 24,000
dollars at the baccarat table because he used a grand martingale while
guessing where to place his next bet [had no bet selection at all]. From
testing systems, thus far, I haven't found a mechanical system that works
thus the reason why tracking various bet selections at one times helps out.
By enabling myself to see which ones are winning, I can switch appropriately
to the better bet selection.
ALSO KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN ESPECIALLY AT THE BACCARAT TABLE!!!
Because of the simplicity of baccarat [only having 2 main bets... player
banker] you can easily see which players are winning a lot of bets versus
losing a lot of bets. It makes your job easier because all you have to do is
either follow them or bet against them [I've found that I've been doing this
more and more. When the player does not bet because they are either
uncertain or their personal method says not to bet, I bet according to my
own method].
First you want to just track to see how
the table is doing with a particular strategy and then adapt to it as best
you can. When I go into the casino these days, I use a gap allowance of 1 to
2 [max]. You'd be surprised at how a simple gap allowance can put you on a
great streak here and there.
In terms of gap allowance, it is just a period in which you allow for X
amount of misses. If the current misses are greater than what you specified
for X, then you stop playing and either way for a signal to play [such as a
hit or double series etc...] and resume play once again.
To help you get a feel for it, here is one shoe I played while I was in Las
Vegas. I used a basic cancellation system to go along with my strategy while
only aiming to win 4-5 units.
NOTE: [I never aim too high because 4-5 units can get me by for a session...
and often you will find that I will play a session, cash in my chips for
cash, then go ahead and play another session right away... I have no logic
or reason why I do this, it is just habit to get me away from the table for
a moment to think if there is anything else I want to do].
In the below example, I allowed for a gap allowance of 1 and played only
player and banker. My entry point is either waiting for a WLW, WWW, or WWLW...
I don't know why I came up with those, perhaps it is because I hate it when
the table ends up doing the WWLLWWLLWWLL [which would wipe me out].

I also won the next 4 bets to follow which put me at my +5 goal.

Now, the updated version is what makes this actually work even better in
terms of finding a great streak. You can put WHATEVER you want in terms of
bet selection down and you will see simple selections unfold before your
very eyes. I currently am testing the basic bet selections when I go to Las
Vegas, but as I come across better ones from either reading on the boards or
other people's personal bet selections, I will use them instead of the basic
strategies because they might prove to streak better or what-have-you.
An example is in the shoe above. Lets say our bet selection is to play 2
hands after EVERY 3 series we encounter. This means a 5 or higher series
will get us to bust. If we put that simple bet selection against our chart
above, you will notice the following Win Loss record.... [we will assume no
entry point establishing due to the length of time it takes to get a 3
series to occur]
WLL <-1 busted series here
LWWWLWLL <-2 busted series here
LWWW [end of shoe]...
1 more win than loss which isn't great but you can see how it does with a
simple bet selection...
Often when you have multiple bet selections being written down, you will
notice when one is going WWWWWWWLWWWW... that is the one you want to try and
hop on as it is going. The longest I've come across with allowing a gap
allowance of only 1 was a awesome 23 hands [not 23 wins because there was
losses scattered between the wins but 23 hands were played on just one
streak before a bust].
What you will also notice is that when you allow the gap allowance to be
bigger, you will hit longer playing streaks which will allow you to change
up the MM to adapt to it."
